Bicyclist hit, killed by semi

ALTON -- Police in Alton say a 46-year-old man was killed when a tractor-trailer ran over the bicycle he was riding.

Investigators say Calvin Waters died at the scene of the crash Wednesday in downtown Alton.

Police Chief Chris Sullivan says the Alton man was bicycling when he went under the truck between the beginning of the trailer and its back wheels.

Sullivan says the truck driver didn't see Waters, and that motorists honked and waved down the truck.

The chief says the 47-year-old driver doesn't appear to be at fault. No citations have been issued.
