Loyola assistant leaves for Gordon Tech

Shay Boyle, an assistant men's basketball coach at Loyola University, has resigned to take the head varsity basketball job at Gordon Tech High School in Chicago.

A four-year member head coach Jim Whitesell's staff at Loyola, Boyle will also be Gordon Tech's director of admissions.

In three seasons as an assistant coach at Loyola, Boyle helped the Ramblers to 52 wins, including a 21-11 record in 2006-07.

"Shay is a great fit for Gordon Tech and has wanted to be a high school head coach," Whitesell said. "He did a wonderful job here and gave four great years of service to Loyola's program. Although we are sorry to see him leave Loyola, we are happy that he will still be in the area."

At Loyola, Boyle helped mentor standout guard Blake Schilb, who earned Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America honors in 2005-06 and finished his career as the only Rambler to accumulate over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 400 assists.
