Clinton clips Cougars

The Kane County Cougars never led Tuesday, losing a 10-2 decision to the Clinton LumberKings at Alliant Energy Field.

The loss, coupled with a victory by the Beloit Snappers, put the Cougars' Western Division wild-card lead at 3½ games. A Cougars victory combined with a Beloit loss would have clinched the wild-card berth.

Clinton starter Derek Holland (6-0) allowed 2 hits.

The Cougars scored their runs in the eighth on a Danny Hamblin single and a Greg Dowling sacrifice fly.

Cougars starter Jamie Richmond was perfect through three innings but struggled in the fourth, yielding 4 runs on 5 hits
