Glen Ellyn board remembers former trustee
Glen Ellyn leaders celebrated Sara Lee's life this week during Monday night's board meeting, the first one since the former trustee and community advocate died on Memorial Day after a short battle with cancer.
Everyone observed a moment of silence to reflect on Lee's life. Lee's family received a proclamation for her dedication to the village, and village board and community members also shared words about the board member they all miss.
"We will miss her greatly, but we want to celebrate her life this evening," President Vicky Hase said. "Over the years, Sara served as a dynamic volunteer."
Trustee Jim Comerford, who knew Sara for more than 15 years, said she was never unprepared.
"She talked to, and more importantly, listened to the residents," he said. "I miss Sara."
Lee's family attended the meeting and listened to praises about Sara Lee.
Nobody doesn't like Sara Lee, Tim Armstrong said jokingly.
"Sara truly gave of herself for Glen Ellyn," he said. "She was a tireless public servant for all the right reasons."
Community members and former trustees who served on the village board with Lee also stepped up to praise her friendly personality.
Curt Barrett, acting village manager, said Lee had an amazing ability to quickly open up to staff employees.
"She kept staff on their toes," he said, "but you knew she had the respect and care for each person beyond that."
Hase said Lee's greatest legacy is her children, whom she loved dearly and always spoke about.
"We will miss Sara a lot," she said.
