In remembrance of the D-Day invasion
In remembrance of the D-Day invasion of June 6, 1944, I submit the following historical note.
World War II began in the following manner:
In order to drum up support for the Nazi invasion of Poland ,the Gestapo dressed up in Polish Army uniforms, killed their own German citizens on the German-Polish border and dressed up the dead German citizens in Polish Army uniforms. Nazi propaganda then told the German population that the Polish had violated German soil. Hitler then had support for his invasion of Poland.
Since Germany invaded Poland, England and France declared war on Germany. Italy, an ally of Germany, then declared war on England and France.
Japan was being deprived of oil by the Western powers because it had invaded China and southeast Asia. Japan realized that it would be reduced to a third-rate power without the oil and therefore destroyed the U.S. fleet at Pearl Harbor and seized the oil fields in the Pacific, such as the Dutch Indies and Indonesia. The U.S. declared war on Japan, and Germany and Italy, being allies of Japan, declared war on the U.S.
In this manner a madman, Hitler, and oil, resulted in the deaths of 50 million people and untold misery. What would the decent people of the world had done were it not for the American and allied soldiers of World War II?
