Thoughts on abortion, morality

I disagree with Ms. Reisener's claim (Fence Post , June 6) that everyone has an absolute right to their own opinion. While this is certainly true in the breakfast food category, it doesn't hold for questions of morality such as abortion.

There is no such thing as "a church's morality". We are all held to the same absolute moral standards because we all have the same human nature. And, religions have the obligation to logically discover and then teach us what those standards are. This is what allows us to revere the 10 Commandments, make laws for our state, and say that Hitler did evil things.

People say that "nobody is pro-abortion" because the name of an intrinsically evil act has a nasty ring to it. But, being "pro choice" is just as bad. It is admitting that each individual has the right to decide which actions are good or evil. This strips morality of all standards and makes it solely a question of "what I want" not "what is good".
