Flood watch issued as storms loom

For the third time in a year, residents along the Fox River and Chain O' Lakes are preparing for a flood.

Officials at the National Weather Service have issued flood warnings and watches throughout the day today and Tuesday for towns along the Des Plaines River and the Fox River and Chain O' Lakes.

The flood waters have come after torrential downpours in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin that dumped between 2 and 4 inches of rain over the weekend. Additional rain is forecast for today.

Officials from the National Weather Service said the Fox River will rise to about 4.5 feet over flood stage Tuesday in New Munster, Wisc., then travel south to the Chain O' Lakes.
