Tour de Cure this weekend in Geneva
Get some exercise and fight diabetes at the same time by hopping on a bike for the American Diabetes Association's Tour De Cure today.
The annual event has moved off the bike paths of a forest preserve in Wheaton and out to the country, west of Geneva.
"The location in Geneva actually allows us to have a road course," said Eric Goodwin, the ride's manager.
Riders can sign up for 25-, 60- and 100-kilometer routes. The 100K ride starts at 7:30 a.m., the 60K at 8:30 a.m. and the 25K at 10 a.m.
The short route will meander through the giant Mill Creek subdivision. The longer routes will head out west, around the Kane County countryside.
The routes start and end at Peck Farm Park, 38W199 Kaneville Road. There is a barbecue there after the rides. Parking is at nearby Geneva Middle School North.
More than 400 people have registered for the ride.
The fee is $50 to register this morning.
You can sign up online at tour.diabetes.org/site/TR/TourdeCure/TDC321008030?pg=entry&fr_id=5034.
There are no age limits -- "just your ambition" as to how far you think you can ride, Goodwin said.
