School cake ban ignores moderation
Why is it that a group of people feels it is necessary to tell another group of people what they should and can eat?
This is in response to the current trend of school districts banning birthday cake items from school, and Jennifer Schmidt's letter to the editor (Fence Post, Tuesday).
While I agree with the idea that everyone should educate themselves about the benefits of eating healthier and getting more exercise, I do not agree that a law or rule should be created to enforce it.
I understand the reason the schools must provide more nutritious hot lunches and breakfasts.
But no birthday cake or occasional treats? What about the idea of "all things in moderation?"
By all means, educate the children and their parents and then let them make their own food choices.
After all, it is choice. You said it yourselves.
I do not understand how these people decided they have the right to make yet another rule or law that should be left to choice and common sense. What does that teach children?
