Carpentersville
• A Carpentersville man who failed to appear in court March 12 was arrested Wednesday, police said. Jonathan Luna, 20, of 2158 Morningside Lane #E, was charged on warrants with possession of alcohol by a minor, police said. Luna was held in the Kane County jail on $500 bond with a June 10 court date in Elgin.
Elgin
• A 33-year-old Elgin woman lost $14,000 Wednesday in a version of the "winning lottery ticket" scam. The victim met a couple at Wal-Mart in East Dundee at 9:15 a.m. and they told her they had a winning lottery ticket worth $197,500. They wanted to return to their home in Peru so they were willing to sell her the ticket. After the victim withdrew $6,000 from her bank, borrowed another $8,000 from a relative and gave the money to the couple, they asked her to go inside a pharmacy on the 600 block of Villa Street to get medication for the woman. When the victim came outside, the couple was gone and so was the victim's money.
• A $1,215 cashiers check and about $640 in cash were stolen from a home Tuesday on the 700 block of Morgan Street.
South Elgin
• Police were called to a business on the 600 block of Randall Road at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday where a 53-year-old man said he was punched and kicked. When police tried to subdue the offender, a sergeant was kicked in the shins three times, police said. Laurie A. Kuti, 53, of 42W612 Steeple Chase, St. Charles, was charged with felony aggravated battery to a police officer and misdemeanor domestic battery, police said.
Kuti was held in the Kane County jail on $7,000 bond with a June 26 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.
