Finally, graduation from school lunch

My daughter's last day of high school was Monday and graduation is Sunday. Yes, this is exciting news but I am just giddy over something else!

After 15 years (she has an older sibling) of making school lunches, I am so done. For some odd reason, my kids, never wanted to buy lunch at school. They "said" they loved my lunches so like a dutiful Mom, I made their lunch every single day, all the way to the last day of senior year!

I endured the complaints, "Do you have to give me a yogurt every day!?" I also zeroed in on a single comment, like, "I love applesauce." I think I put applesauce in my son's lunch for two years until he begged me to stop. If they complained about the lunch, I would rant and rave, "Make your own lunch." But I was up before they were in the morning and worried they wouldn't have time to make a balanced and healthy lunch, so I made the lunch, ever single school day.

I thrived on comments like, "Everyone at my lunch table buys greasy pizza, chips, soda and fries. They are all jealous of my lunch and asked me everyday what I have and how they wish their Mom would make their lunch for them." Those shared remarks with me was my motivation to keep on assembling a healthy bagged lunch. (I think they got wise and knew that so they were sure to lay on the praise!)

So you can imagine how excited I am about graduation! I am off to work and I am going to buy my lunch in the company dining room today. No more looking at oven roasted turkey breast, tuna salad or egg salad at 5:30 a.m

Happy graduation to me!
