Oak Crest to hold monthly book sale
Oak Crest Residence and Atrium Apartments, 204 S. State St., Elgin invites the community to attend its monthly book sale from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in the Atrium.
The book sale consists of a large selection of gently used books, VHS movies and CDs. There are over a thousand titles for your reading enjoyment. Hardbacks are $1, paperbacks are 50 cents. New books have been added to the already huge selection. Most of the books are in mint, gift-giving condition. Refreshments will be served.

Police hold a gang awareness seminar
The Carpentersville Police Department will present a gang awareness/prevention seminar at 7 p.m. June 11 at Fox Valley Baptist Church, 16N562 Vista Lane, East Dundee.
Topics of the presentation include: gang awareness. gang culture, gang identifiers, gang activity in Carpentersville and the surrounding area, prevention measures and a question-and-answer session.
The presentation will be conducted by Officer Michael Salvaggio and department social worker Griselda Hernandez.
There will be a special children's program during the presentation for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade. Child care also will be available. After the presentation, there will be an open house for Griffin Christian School, a ministry of Fox Valley Baptist Church. Griffin Christian School is currently enrolling all grades, preschool through 12th grade, for the 2008-09 school year. Find a bargain at annual sale
The village of Gilberts will hold its annual village-wide garage sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Sunday. To get the free garage sale directional maps, call Cathy Skoulikaris, New Heritage Century 21, at (847) 710-0204. Directional signs also will be posted throughout the village.
