South Elgin man charged in sex assault

A South Elgin man received a $2 million bond this morning after being charged with sexually assaulting a boy in Des Plaines last year.

Fahad Khan, 31, of 235 Courtland Drive, faces one count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, which is a Class X felony carrying up to 30 years in prison, according to the Cook County sheriff's office.

A news release from the sheriff's office said Khan first approached the 12-year-old boy on his MySpace page. The pair chatted online, which led to a phone conversation where they agreed to meet.

Khan picked the boy up at his home at about midnight and took him to his Des Plaines home and sexually assaulted him, police said.

Khan later moved from Des Plaines to his current South Elgin home.

The boy shut down his MySpace page, but Khan found him again about a year later when he recognized the boy's screen name in another chat room, police said.

The boy's family contacted the sheriff's police, who then assumed the boy's identify. Police said Khan agreed to meet with an undercover officer, who was pretending to be the boy online.

On Monday night, Khan was arrested in a parking lot in Melrose Park.

His next court date is June 10 at the Skokie courthouse, said Andrew Conklin, spokesman for the Cook County state's attorney's office.
