Durbin offers hype, not gas solutions
On Thursday, Sen. Richard Durbin held a press conference at a small gas station in South Aurora where he spoke about the rising gas prices.
His solution consisted almost entirely of suing the major executives running the oil companies.
What Durbin failed to mention during this speech is that he opposes drilling in ANWR, the Gulf of Mexico, and has repeatedly come out against building new nuclear power plants.
If America does not increase domestic energy production immediately, we will remain captive to the oil producing nations and our economy will suffer.
While Durbin is successful at drawing attention to the plight of the suburban commuter, he fails to provide any meaningful short- or long-term solutions to the problem.
Suing executives costs both the oil companies and federal government money. This might sound great, but the people who get stuck with the bill in the end are taxpayers.
Supporters of both parties need to demand actual solutions from their elected officials, not just the typical political rhetoric and meaningless press conferences.
Durbin needs to worry more about the taxpayers and less about frivolous lawsuits that benefit nobody but the trial lawyers. Americans deserve better.
