Wrongful death suit filed

The family of a Chicago man shot to death in front of his home has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against an off-duty suburban police officer. The lawsuit filed Tuesday alleges that 35-year-old Cornell McKinney was gunned down outside his Chicago home by his wife's ex-husband. Christopher Lloyd is an off-duty police officer with the village of Robbins, south of Chicago. The lawsuit claims Lloyd struck McKinney 24 times. Attorney Rahsaan A. Gordon, who represents McKinney's family, said Lloyd was upset because McKinney disciplined his child. Lloyd has not been charged. Chicago police won't comment on the lawsuit pending an investigation. Gordon denied previous statements by police that Lloyd acted in self-defense and that McKinney had a gun.
