Sky falls just short in home defeat
Tamika Whitmore and Lindsay Whalen scored 19 points apiece to help the Connecticut Sun edge the Chicago Sky 75-73 Sunday afternoon at the UIC Pavilion.
Jia Perkins scored a game-high 21 points for the Sky but missed a 12-foot baseline jumper over Connecticut's Jones at the buzzer as the Sun (5-1) improved to 7-1 against the third-year Sky, including 5-0 at the Pavilion.
Barbara Turner scored 11 of her 13 in the third quarter and rookie Amber Holt added 11 points for Connecticut, which is 2-0 away from Mohegan Sun Arena.
Sky rookie Sylvia Fowles posted her second consecutive double-double with season highs of 17 points and 12 rebounds. Candice Dupree also had a double-double for the Sky (1-3) with 14 points and a season-high 11 rebounds.
Dominique Canty and Armintie Price combined for 5 points on 1-for-15 shooting as the Sky shot less that 44 percent (43.1) for the third time this season.
"The one thing that changed between Thursday's game (a 75-69 loss to Minnesota) we had much better energy, which was good," Sky coach Steven Key said. "But the one thing that also carried over from last game to this game was the poor shooting."
