Editor inducted in SIU hall of fame
CHICAGO -- A retired Chicago Tribune employee who now teaches at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale is among seven people who'll be inducted June 20th into the Chicago Journalism Hall of Fame.
In addition to Bill Recktenwald, the other inductees include Casey Bukro, Bill Jones, Val Mazzenga, Paul Molloy, Mary Mitchell and Dennis Swanson. Jones hired Recktenwald at the Tribune; he and Molloy are joining the hall posthumously.
While at the Tribune, Recktenwald was a deputy bureau chief and investigative reporter. He's a four-time Pulitzer Prize finalist and was part of two Pulitzer winning series in the 1970s.
Recktenwald has been at SIU since 1999. He teaches news writing and reporting, public affairs reporting, feature writing and investigative reporting.
