Torres good choice for U-46 leader
As a long-time advocate for my local school district and quality public education in Illinois, I was thrilled to see the choice of Jose Torres from Chicago Public Schools as the new superintendent of School District U-46.
It has been a hard few years -- especially the last year with the former superintendent's departure. Morale is as low as I have ever seen within the district. But I think it is time for U-46 communities and every stakeholder to come together, welcome Torres and all look toward the future.
There is much work to do in U-46 and the state of Illinois to have the quality public education system that we all want -- one where every child is availed the tools they need to reach their individual human potential. Every stakeholder needs to take a bit of the responsibility for this goal to be a reality, and we all have a stake in nurturing our children and assuring they have an equal chance to succeed.
I want to congratulate each board member and every U-46 community member, student, teacher, parent, administrator, or community leader who participated in the process of selecting the new leader.
