Cardinal says priest was out of line
Chicago's Cardinal Francis George says he has requested -- and received -- an apology from the Rev. Michael Pfleger, who mocked Senator Hillary Clinton from the pulpit of a South Side Protestant church last weekend.
In a statement issued Friday, the cardinal said he has received a promise from the activist priest that he will not mention any political candidate by name in the future.
George also said Pfleger has agreed to abide by the discipline common to all Catholic priests.
George conceded that racial issues are both political and moral and are also highly charged, but he found Pfleger's remarks about Senator Clinton to have been both partisan and a personal attack -- something he regrets deeply.
