Benefit for local ariman Sunday

A wine-tasting and live auction to benefit the family of fallen Air Force Tech Sgt. William H. Jefferson Jr. takes place 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Top Shelf Wine and Spirits, 240 Randall Road, South Elgin.

Jefferson, 34, a Norfolk, Va., native, died in Afghanistan in March, leaving behind an 8-year-old daughter and a pregnant wife, who gave birth to the couple's second daughter on Mother's Day.

The fundraiser was organized by Bartlett resident Anne Honan, who'd never met Jefferson but was moved by his service to and sacrifice for his country. Honan's daughter's boyfriend serves in the unit Jefferson was in and is now serving in Iraq.
