Chicago Botanic Garden
The Chicago Botanic Garden is the specially chosen North American host for the United Nations Environment Programme's World Environment Day 2008. This Thursday, the garden hosts a "Knowledge and Action" marketplace on ways to reduce carbon footprints, panels sessions, lectures and demonstrations of organic gardening and composting (demonstrations continue through June 8).

Author Joel Greenberg reads from and signs his book "A Natural History of the Chicago Region" at 1:30 p.m. today.
The Garden Chef series featuring 40 of Chicago's top chefs sharing their culinary experience on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. through Oct. 5. The demonstrations are included with the price of admission.
Free Family Drop-in activities in the Fruit and Vegetable Garden are weekends 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Oct. 5.
A Wine Festival featuring more than 250 domestic and international wines from more than 40 exhibitors is from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. June 8. Tickets run $25-$30 and include a souvenir glass, 10 tasting tickets, seminars and more.
Extended summer hours begin Saturday when the garden is open daily until 9 p.m. through Sept. 1.
