Quite a feat: 3 eagles in one round by Reifers

Kyle Reifers moved to the top of the leaderboard at the Nationwide Tour's $750,000 Bank of America Open in spectacular fashion Thursday, recording 3 eagles on his way to a 9-under 63 and a 2-stroke lead over David Lutterus, Keith Nolan, Kris Blanks and Darron Stiles at the Glen Club in Glenview.

Seventeen years after Tom Lehman became the first Nationwide Tour player topost 3 eagles in a round at the 1991 Reno Open, Reifers eagled Nos. 5,14 and 18 at The Glen Club to become the 14th player in Tour history to perform the feat.

"I don't know if I've ever had any rounds before with 3 eagles," said Reifers, who hit 8 of 14 fairways and 14of 18 greens in regulation. "When you're playing well, you aren't thinking about that kind of stuff. It doesn't really matter if it says par 4 or par 5, you just add it up at the end of the day."

A 244-yard hybrid finished 25 feet from the hole on the par-5 fifth hole, while a 5-iron from 209 yards on the par-5 14th hole rolled to within 20 feet of the cup. Another hybrid from 227 yards on the closing par-5 18th hole rested just 10 feet from the hole. Reifers drained all 3 putts to add his name to the record books.

"I played great all day," said Reifers, a24-year-old native of Columbus, Ohio. "I putted beautifully today and I was really excited with the way I finished the round."
