Giving just due to Memorial Day
It is now 8:30 a.m. on Monday, otherwise known this year as Memorial Day.
I am conducting my morning ritual of having my coffee while reading the Daily Herald. I read with great interest Chuck Goudie's article, titled. "This should be America's greatest national holiday."
In this article, Chuck describes the "death of Memorial Day" as it was initially intended.
While I agreed with most of his article, I found it ironic that the Daily Herald, itself, contributed to Chuck's observation of today's Memorial Day by not publishing the list of Memorial Day activities or cemetery times anywhere in the Memorial Day edition of the newspaper.
Now, just to let you know I am not a hypocrite, here's my Memorial Day plan.
Attend the Elk Grove Village Memorial Day celebration for our fallen heroes. After which I go to the cemetery, decorate my family graves and then conduct a Memorial Day tradition that I started years ago. I find a grave of a soldier who has been forgotten.
The graves are easy to find. they are usually unkempt. I clean the grave, trim the edges to make it look nice, and plant an American Flag.
I say a prayer of thanks to someone I've never met, but appreciate.
