Elgin LWV: Never in U.S. history has participation in government by informed and active citizens been of more importance, yet at the annual meeting of the Elgin Area League of Women Voters, two very special members were honored and celebrated for a century of service through education and advocacy on the important issues

of the day. Honorary status for 50 years of dedicated service was bestowed upon members Shirley Simon and Ann Schneck by the national organization. For a combined century of service, the Elgin Area League has been fortunate to have as members these two dedicated and hard working women.

Through active participation in the League's work, members this year studied immigration, global climate changes, education funding and Illinois fiscal reform, affordable housing and mental health services in Kane County. The League assisted with elections and registered voters -- all with the goal of increasing participation and understanding of good government.

On Sept. 27, Elgin Voter Registration Day will be sponsored by the league, with locations all over the Elgin area available for voter registration and early voting information.
