Sugar Grove man charged with car theft

A Sugar Grove man was arrested early Sunday and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.

According to Sugar Grove police investigator John Sizer, Michael F. Robinson, 26, of the 43W500 block of Route 30, admitted to having just stolen the vehicle when an officer approached him at 5:16 a.m. at Route 47 and Galena Boulevard.

He was stopped by police who observed him driving a black 2000 Hyundai 20 mph over the speed limit while north bound on Route 47.

Police said the vehicle had been taken from a location within the 49W200 block of Route 30 in Big Rock. Police said the keys had been left in the car.

Robinson was taken into custody without incident.

The charge of being in possession of a stolen vehicle is a Class 2 felony. Robinson also was charged with driving while his license was suspended and with speeding.
