Briefs: Campton census ongoing

Free open gyms all summer

The Elgin Police Department school liaison program will sponsor a free open gym program for kids 8 to 16 from June 9 through Aug. 8. At U-46 schools from 5:30 to 9 p.m. kids can play basketball, kickball, soccer, floor hockey, swimming or do arts and crafts. Speakers will give presentations on baking, bicycle safety, gang awareness and prevention, life skills and drug and alcohol awareness. A waiver and participation form is required. Court volunteers sought

Court-Appointed Special Advocates Kane County has information sessions for potential volunteers at 4 p.m. today and noon Friday at the Kane County Courthouse, 100 S. Third St., Suite 460, Geneva. It advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children. Candidates must complete a 40-hour training program starting June 21. Classes are offered during the mornings and evenings.
