ECC's fate suspended by rain

The Elgin Community College baseball team trailed Monroe 10-8 in the bottom of the eighth inning Monday night when the game was suspended because of rain at the NJCAA World Series in Millington, Tenn.

The Spartans' game with Monroe will resume at 10 a.m. today.

After winning its first game of the tournament on Saturday night, the Spartans (32-15) fell into the loser's bracket with a 14-12 loss to LSU-Eunice Sunday night in a game that ended after midnight.

In that loss, ECC had an 8-0 lead after three innings but couldn't hang on.
