Company puts eco-awareness into real estate sales
The owners of an Arlington Heights-based residential real estate company are taking the green effort a step further.
Adam and Dina Skinner, owners of Meritage Realty Group, are attempting to do their part to help the environment. The real estate firm is also making it possible for clients to contribute to humanitarian efforts.
One of the most visible ways to see their green effort is through the "for sale" signs posted in front of residential homes. The base or mount of the signs is made out of old windows, wrought-iron railings or vintage doors. The actual sign is embedded inside the structure and made of eco-friendly inks and materials, said Adam Skinner, who also owns ARS, a development company that builds new homes.
Dina Skinner is a licensed Realtor who worked with another area company for three years before launching the business about six months ago.
In addition, the couple prints all materials on recycled products and uses CDs instead of informational brochures when possible.
"We're a real estate company with a mission to give back to the community and the world," Adam Skinner said.
On every sale, the couple donates a portion of the commission to a humanitarian effort in the client's name. While the price structure is still being formed, about $500 would be donated from a condominium or town house sale, they said.
The couple, who is raising three children in Arlington Heights, say they are blending their past experiences in the new endeavor.
"Combining our expert knowledge in home construction, development and sales provides us with an additional tool," Adam Skinner said.
The owners say it's their goal to keep their commission base below 4.5 percent.
They say they've been blessed with a good lifestyle and good health, and want to give something back.
