Kitchen fire in Elgin
Firefighters extinguished a blaze Sunday afternoon that tore through a kitchen in an Elgin duplex. No one was hurt, as the tenant wasn't home, Elgin Fire Capt. Randy Covert said. The fire started near the range, Covert also said. Crews spent about an hour fighting the fire shortly before 11 a.m. at 1063 Iroquois Drive. The fire was mostly contained to the kitchen, but heat and smoke damage spread to other rooms, Covert added.
