Proud to serve and be an American

With high gas prices, political slander, foreclosures setting record numbers, many families in economic turmoil, sad to say, but this is today's America.

We have a president who is so out of touch with America, he might as well be president of Egypt. We have two Democrats running for the job, both spending hundreds of millions of dollars on cut-throat ads, each one trying to outdo the other. We have a Congress and Senate that are so lame and incompetent, they just refuse to help American citizens. Yet with the help of their partners in crime from corporate America, they keep pushing to help illegal immigrants.

And on the state level, aren't you proud to be paying the highest gas tax in the nation, being represented by fools who can't even come up with a budget because they can't sit in the same room with each other? And then there's our beloved media whose main focus it seems is who will be the next American Idol. Maybe they'll do a spin off and call it American Idiot that features politicians.

What happened to the America I knew? You want heroes? Look no further than cemeteries around the world that bear the bodies of those who gave their lives so all of this could happen. They fought and died defending this country and every American owes them a debt of gratitude. That especially goes for many of our leaders who have been spitting on their graves for years now.

Whether or not you agree with the wars this country has been involved in, the men and women who never returned home are heroes and should always be remembered.

I would hope that everyone would pause for a few moments this Memorial Day weekend and remember them. Despite all the problems in the country and around the world today, and despite the ineptness of our government, I still love this country.

As a Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran, I am proud to have served. I was proud then, proud today, and I'll be proud tomorrow.

To all my fellow veterans, I salute you and thank you for your service. God Bless America.
