ECC should help with book savings

Why do most students attend community college? Because it's cheaper, supposedly.

What I find absolutely ridiculous is the fact sometimes my books cost more than my tuition for the semester. I don't have money for college. That's why I go to Elgin Community College. I feel like they are making up the difference in the price of the books.

Textbook rental is becoming a hot commodity. Web sites like chegg.com and bookrenter.com offer the same books at our college bookstore but for a reasonable fee for the semester. You return the book at the end of the semester with the option to buy the book if you'd like. Students at major universities are flocking to programs like these and some colleges are implementing these programs on campus. Why not ECC? Why not provide for the students who would benefit the most from these programs?

Community college's biggest claim is the considerably lower cost than four-year colleges. While that may be still true, we are considerably less off than those students and should be given the option to save money by renting textbooks.
