Man charged with battery against Prospect Heights officer

A Chicago man police caught with a pistol and black ski mask outside a Cook County video store late Friday is facing weapons charges.

Bond for Mikolaj Lakomski, 27, was set at $200,000 Saturday at the Rolling Meadows courthouse.

He is charged with possession of a stolen firearm, aggravated battery and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

A Prospect Heights police officer on patrol just before midnight became suspicious after noticing a man in the parking lot of a Family Video store, which had closed for the day.

After returning to the shop on Rand Road between Arlington Heights and Prospect Heights, the officer questioned Lakomski who pushed him, prosecutors said.

During the ensuing struggle, the officer was bitten twice. Police recovered a stolen pistol and black face mask from Lakomski.

His next court date is June 18.
