Grand Reserve appeals to baby boomers

Tailored to baby boomers, the new Grand Reserve in Algonquin is going up with convenience in mind.

The community -- which is being built by West Dundee-based Grand Pointe Homes -- includes duplexes with most of the living space on one floor and maintenance-free manor townhouses. Golf courses and forest preserves sit close by, and a walking path winds through the community itself.

Now, as if to embellish these convenient credentials further, Grand Pointe announced that it was offering for sale several "quick delivery" Reserve homes -- already built inventory homes often full of instant upgrades.

"Buyers in their 50s and 60s love quick delivery. The homes are beautiful, essentially complete, and ready to be moved into. People who buy now can be living in their new home in weeks. What's more convenient than that?" asked Scott Ballard, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Grand Pointe.

The eight striking, fully formed new homes are what Ballard calls "instant dream homes."

The finished duplex homes range in size from 1,613 to 2,029 square feet, and in price from the $290,000s (before the special incentive discount).

Included in the manor townhouses is the Coventry, a two-bedroom with 2½ baths. It comes with a concrete patio, ceiling fan openings, air conditioning, icemaker line, laundry tub, humidifier and cathedral ceiling in the master bedroom. The price is $273,235.

Another manor townhouse, the Durham, comes with a superbath, concrete patio, fireplace, three skylights, vaulted ceiling in the master bedroom, air conditioning, icemaker line and laundry tub. The price is $288,545.

The latter two are upscale, groundbreaking attached homes, which -- according to Ballard -- "you have to see to believe."

With traditionally styled architecture accented by stone detailing, decorative trim, imposing columns, covered entries and quaint sidelights, the homes offer an ample 1,692 to 2,310 square feet of interior space with two bedrooms, up to 2½ baths -- and in some cases -- a loft and optional flex rooms. The homes seem perfectly suited for empty-nesting couples or even the newly single.

While it targets older baby boomers, Grand Reserve is not at all a retiring place.

"It gives emphasis to the active, more carefree lifestyle that boomers want to live. The homes themselves require much less maintenance and busy work than the homes they're leaving. And Grand Reserve sits close to activities. Overall, this is convenience that few other communities can offer active older adults," Ballard said.

To visit Grand Reserve, take I-90 to Randall Road, north to Harnish Drive, west (left) to Eineke Boulevard, and left to the model. Decorated models are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
