Getting support in fight against cancer

Cancer is a major health concern for the people of Illinois.

Despite widespread advances in cancer prevention, detection and treatment, many people aren't getting the information and support they need to win their cancer battles.

This year, more than 61,000 Illinoisans will be diagnosed with cancer.

While the likelihood of beating cancer is greater than ever before, positive outcomes depend on easy and early access to a wide range of information, services and resources.

The American Cancer Society's Patient Navigation Services, a suite of complimentary services to assist people in need, make access to all kinds of help easier.

Through partnerships with more than 50 Illinois hospitals, as well as the society's telephone call center with readily available cancer care specialists, people fighting cancer can get access to information and services for day-to-day help and emotional support that complement what their doctors and hospitals provide.

The services include transportation assistance to treatments; discounted lodging at hotels for patients who need to travel to receive care; insurance coverage assistance; resource matching and referrals; and cosmetic help such as free wigs or headwear. The society also offers cancer information and access to support groups.

If you'd like to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their loved ones, we invite you to get involved in your local Relay for Life.
