Springfield rail upgrades affect Amtrak routes

SPRINGFIELD -- Amtrak is temporarily canceling two trains along its St. Louis-to-Chicago corridor and modifying the schedules for others to accommodate track repairs.

Railroad officials say the changes will remain in effect through May 31st while Union Pacific installs thousands of new concrete ties and replaces two dozen road crossings.

Amtrak plans to cancel a morning departure from Chicago and an evening departure from St. Louis while modifying the schedules of three other Lincoln Service trains.

Meanwhile, the railroad says passengers aboard the Texas Eagle routes should expect delays.

About 477,000 riders traveled between St. Louis and Chicago last year.
