Pair charged with sale of drugs to police

Elgin police arrested two men and recovered $22,000 in cash Wednesday after an undercover drug buy on May 1, reports said.

Daniel Solano-Perez, 36, and Jorge Leon, 23, both of Elgin, were charged with possession and delivery of a controlled substance, police said.

An undercover police officer purchased 17.5 grams of cocaine from the two in a west side Elgin parking lot on May 1 for $500, a report said.

The actual transfer of drugs and acceptance of the money was made by Solano-Perez, but police identified Leon sitting in the rear passenger seat of the car at the transaction, the report said.

The transaction was taped.

Police said that when they stopped a car driven by Leon Wednesday at North State Street and Big Timber Road in Elgin, they found $22,000 in cash in the vehicle, which was seized.

Leon told police $20,000 of the money was his and he had been saving it from his salary of approximately $500 a week as a landscaper, police said. He did not admit being involved in the May 1 drug transaction, police said.

Police then went to Martha Drive where Solano-Perez was arrested at his home.

All Solano-Perez would say is that he is living in the United States illegally, the report said.

Bond was set at $20,000 for Solano-Perez and $15,000 for Leon.

Neither man was able to post bond and both were taken to the Kane County jail.

Their next court dates are on June 5 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
