Briefs: Police say man hit on purpose

A 32-year-old Palatine man was arrested and charged with aggravated battery Wednesday after police said he intentionally struck a man with his car. Authorities say James R. Martin, of 1721 N. Rose St., was driving in the 1600 block of North Baldwin Road about 2 p.m. Wednesday when he spotted a man he argued with earlier in the day. Martin turned his 1998 Volkswagen Jetta around and intentionally struck the 30-year-old victim, authorities say. Palatine officers located the car, which had a shattered windshield and what appeared to be blood. The victim was transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. His condition is unknown. Martin, who police say implicated himself, is due in court today.
