Briefs: Gurnee motel robbed

Gurnee police said Thursday they don't have any solid leads related to an armed robbery at a motel in the village. Police said two masked men pointed a handgun at an employee and robbed the Hampton Inn, 5550 Grand Ave., about 12:30 a.m. Monday. Reports state the men approached the front desk, jumped over the counter and demanded money from the safe. The 34-year-old male manager confronted the suspects. One suspect pointed a silver-plated handgun at the manager and the front-desk employee, who opened the cash register, reports state. The robbers took an undisclosed amount of money and fled in a black sport utility vehicle. The men were described as 17 to 20 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 130 pounds. They were reported to be wearing white hoodies and dark baggy jeans.

Cyclist injured

A 44-year-old Glencoe man was slightly injured while biking Thursday morning when he was hit by a car at Winchester Road and Tiffany Lane in Mundelein. The bicyclist, who was not identified by police, was heading west on Winchester Road when a car driven by Kendra Sanpahl, 31, of Round Lake, turned in front of him, Mundelein Police Deputy Chief Michael O'Brien said. The cyclist hit the car hard enough to send him over the hood, O'Brien said. The cyclist landed on the pavement and suffered bumps, scrapes and bruises, but refused medical treatment at the scene, O'Brien said. Sanpahl was cited for failure to yield. Traffic was backed up at the intersection for about 30 minutes.
