Bravo, Sandy Cole, for your voting

A distasteful mailing was recently sent to the women in Sandy Cole's 62nd Legislative District by a well funded and powerful lobbying group.

The piece tried to inflame the emotions by showing a picture of a group of school children with a target and a handgun super-imposed over their heads. The only factual statement on the mailing was that Sandy Cole voted against HB758. There were no quotes from HB758 or a synopsis of the bill. Instead there was verbiage spouting the group's message.

How often do we speak about powerful interest groups bullying our representatives into voting for their bills? We are fortunate to have a representative who reads each bill and makes an informed vote based on the merits of the bill and the wishes of her constituency.

Imagine my surprise when I realized that this group is the gun control lobby. I can only hope that in the future they will put their time and money into promoting better bills instead of using scare tactics on unsuspecting voters.

Thank you Sandy Cole for making informed decision on our behalf. Your voting record over the past 12 years on the Lake County Board and the Illinois Legislature speaks louder than a mud-flinging, campaign-style flier. You vote for a bill based on its merits and not because a special interest group is pressuring your vote.
