Former Green Oaks mayor trial date set on child pornography charges
Former Green Oaks Mayor Thomas Adams will go to trial on child pornography charges starting Aug. 25, a Kane County judge said Wednesday.
Judge Patricia Piper Golden was appointed to hear the case against Adams after all Lake County judges disqualified themselves.
Adams, 70, was arrested in July 2006 after police said he e-mailed child pornography to a police officer in Florida.
Police traced the e-mail to a computer at Adams' home at 885 Anderson Drive and said he confessed to sending the images.
Adams was Green Oaks mayor from 1983 until his resignation shortly after his arrest. He also served as chairman of the county's Republican Party from 2002 to 2004.
If convicted of distributing child pornography, Adams faces a mandatory prison sentence of between four and 15 years.
