Fox & Obel grocer to move into landmark Carson Pirie Scott building
A Chicago landmark that had been home to retail clothiers since its construction more than a century ago will be the home of a gourmet grocer.
Fox & Obel plans to open a store this fall inside what was once the Carson Pirie Scott building.
The building's developer, Joseph Freed and Associates, says Fox and Obel will occupy 25,000 square feet on two floors.
The developers say Billabong International, an Australia-based surf and skate clothing store, will also rent space. And Flat Top Grill restaurant has also occupy space in the building now known as the Sullivan Center.
Occupied by retailer Carson Pirie Scott since 1904, the Louis Sullivan designed building has been largely unoccupied since the department store moved out in 2007. The building, completed in the 1890s, has been undergoing extensive renovation and restoration.
