Chicago police officer accused of shoplifting

CHICAGO RIDGE -- A Chicago police officer has been charged with shoplifting after security guards stopped her from leaving a department store with clothing she allegedly had not bought.

Police say 11-year police veteran Carie Hooker was stopped late Monday as she tried to leave a Kohl's store in Chicago Ridge. Police say the unpaid for items in Hooker's possession were worth $100.

Police say Hooker was charged with misdemeanor retail theft.

Hooker was assigned to the Chicago Alternative Police Strategies office. Police spokeswoman Monique Bond says Hooker has been stripped of her badge and gun pending the outcome of the case.
