Former Oklahoma quarterback transferring to Michigan State

NORMAN, Okla.-- Former Oklahoma backup quarterback Keith Nichol says he is transferring to Michigan State.

Nichol, from Lowell, Mich., will sit out next season and have three years of eligibility remaining with the Spartans.

Nichol originally gave an oral commitment to Michigan State while in high school, but changed his mind after the school fired then-coach John L. Smith. He settled on Oklahoma, where he enrolled early and competed in a three-way race for the starting job.

Sam Bradford won the job and went on to a record-setting freshman season with the Sooners, with Nichol falling to third-team status. Nichol played in three games for Oklahoma last season, completing 2 of 7 passes for 15 yards.

He said earlier this month that he planned to transfer.
