Bierman taking reins at Elgin High

Dave Bierman is trading in his royal and blue for maroon and cream. And with it, he goes back to his roots.

Bierman, the head football coach at Larkin High School for the past 3 years, will become the new head coach at his alma mater, Elgin High School, the school announced in a press release today.

Bierman replaces Tom Kim, who resigned to become the new athletic director at Grayslake Central High School.

Bierman is a Northern Illinois University graduate who played for the 1983 MAC and California Bowl champion Huskies.

Bierman is also a 1981 Elgin High graduate who began his coaching career under Dick Stephens at Elgin. Bierman was head coach at Burlington Central for 6 years with a 27-29 overall record and two playoff appearances. He left Burlington to become the head coach at DeKalb, where he was 5-43 in five-plus seasons. After serving two years as an assistant at Geneva, he has spent the past 3 years as Larkin's head coach, with a record of 12-16 and a playoff appearance in 2006.
