Child obesity not a county matter
I am disappointed at Kane County's recent decision to spend our tax dollars on a campaign to fight obesity in children. While the cause is noble, Kane County taxpayers should not be picking up the tab on this initiative. This is not an arena we should be investing at a county level.
The issue is sad and possibly desperate, but government can't take on the social responsibility of trying to make people do the right thing. How many people suffering from an obesity problem don't know how to reverse their situation? I would venture not many.
There are plenty of organizations devoting funds to this issue. I urge the board to rescind the funding of this program. If you have $500,000 for this campaign, the county has too much money at its disposal.
