MYS to hold auditions today, Wednesday

Metropolis Youth Symphony invites musicians in grades six through 12 to audition for its 2008-09 season.

The symphony provides excellent performance and ensemble experience for young musicians in the Northwest suburbs.

Auditions will be from 3:30 to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday on the second floor of the Metropolis facility in the Art Studio, Campbell Street and Vail Avenue, Arlington Heights. Street parking is available. Students should prepare one solo piece and one piece from their current ensemble.

Musicians should also be ready to sight-read and play several scales -- up to four sharps and four flats -- at the audition. To schedule an audition time, call (847) 577-5982 ext. 221.

The Summer Institute Metropolis Youth Symphony will perform this year at the Mane Event in Harmony Park in downtown Arlington Heights Aug. 8. Other upcoming 2008-2009 MYS concerts include: Scholarship Halloween Concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 29; Holiday Concert at 4 p.m. Dec. 7; the MYS eighth Anniversary Concert at 7 p.m. April 5, 2009 and the Spring Concert at 7 p.m. May 31, 2009. All concerts are held at Metropolis Performing Arts Centre.
