Sometimes we all need a little help
As I was driving down Aptakisic Road on Friday at my typical time on my typical route to my typical job, something changed the routine.
Traffic was unusually backed up. As we all slowly moved to the left lane to press on in our Friday routines we saw a stalled car. I drove by to see a women sitting in her car, probably wondering, "What did I do? The car just stopped. What do I do now? If I just keep trying, will my car start?"
I assumed she had a phone and was calling her family for help. We all, hundreds of us, moved past to re-enter our Friday routine.
About a mile I turned around. I am not sure why. What will I do? I'm a little guy and don't know anything about cars.
When I got to her, I met Becky, a frustrated and stressed mom-to-be on her own Friday routine. I also met another woman who stopped to help. She probably had the same questions prior to stopping.
We reassured Becky that everything would be all right. I am not sure how we did it, but we were able to push that car down the road, around the corner and out of traffic. I felt like a superhero that was "to the rescue!" She was able to get a hold of a tow truck, get a ride to work and move onto the rest of her Friday.
I will have to say that this morning we did not stop world hunger or slow global warming, but we did let this person know that we noticed them and that they counted. People really do care about Becky, even strangers. We were her superheroes.
Will you be someone's superhero today? Will someone be yours?
