Get facts straight on war, recession

Amy Cihak, in a recent letter, attempted to blame the War on Terror for "the recession."

Putting aside the fact that unemployment at 5 percent is historically low or that to date there is no recession (recession is two consecutive quarters of negative GDP, which hasn't happened since the one that started while Clinton was still in office), Cihak appears to be guilty of the Fallacy of Begging the Question (Petitio Principii).

In other words she is reasoning in a circle, failing to prove her initial thesis and using the original thesis as proof of itself. What was to be proved in the first place is offered ultimately in defense of itself.

Cihak should have tried using facts instead of MoveOn.org propaganda.

Such as the fact that the current U.S. military budget, expressed in percentage of GDP, averaged 5.6 percent between 1940 and 2000 and that it has averaged less than 5 percent since.

Perhaps Amy Cihak, a district organizer for MoveOn.org,. the same organization that constantly attacks the honor and integrity of our military leaders, would do better first learning something about economics, in addition to something about the war on terror and America too.
