Police say Elgin man was dealing drugs again

A man who sold cocaine to an undercover Elgin police officer for the second time in two months was arrested Thursday, police said.

Esteban Calderon-Padilla, 26, of 1075 Lawrence Ave., Elgin, was charged with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, police said. If he is convicted of all four charges, he could receive from 15 to 126 years in prison.

An undercover officer said he purchased 3.1 grams of cocaine from Calderon-Padilla on April 8 for $120, police said.

The transaction took place on Elgin's near east side.

The same officer arranged to buy an ounce of cocaine from Calderon-Padilla again on Thursday, police said.

This time the location was Elgin's far west side in a parking lot.

Members of the Elgin Police Department's drug, gang, crime-free housing and surveillance units were all on hand at 6:30 p.m. Thursday when Calderon-Padilla accepted $900 in exchange for 28.3 grams of cocaine from the same officer, police said.

Calderon-Padilla said he is not a U.S. citizen, which means that he could be deported if he is found guilty of any of the charges.

Calderon-Padilla was sent to the Kane County jail Friday morning. His bond was set at $15,000 with his next court date on May 30 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
