Dist. 300 hosts last town hall meeting
I'm washing my hair Saturday morning, but you should save the date.
Saturday is the third and last town hall meeting the Community Unit District 300 school board is hosting this spring to improve communication between the board and the community.
Saturday's meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Neubert Elementary School, 1100 Huntington Drive, Algonquin.
A translator will be available for Spanish speakers, according to the district.
Look at it this way: The District 300 school board works for you, and this meeting is a rare opportunity for you to evaluate board members on their performance and tell them what they need to do better.
Public house for pensioners
I haven't been to many pubs in Huntley -- though it's always a pleasure to visit the Parkside Pub for the annual Turkey Testicle Festival.
I'm told there's a new watering hole in Del Webb's Sun City, a sports pub called Parker O'Riley's.
The family-friendly Irish pub boasts a full menu of traditional bar food, four wide-screen TVs, a children's menu, sports memorabilia and a large selection of beer and wine.
The pub held its grand opening last month with former Chicago Bull Bob Love and former Chicago Bear Revie Sorey. The sold-out event was attended by more than 300 people.
A portion of the proceeds from the grand opening was donated to the Illinois Special Olympics, and I'm told the bar hopes to hold more events to benefit the Special Olympics in the future.
The new bar is operated by veteran saloonkeeper Brian Jason, who owns the Barn of Barrington and operates the Walleye Grill and Drendel Ballroom in Huntley.
Parker O'Riley's (any relation to Baba?) is at 12940 Del Webb Blvd., next to the Walleye Grill. The bar is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. Call (847) 515-7675 for more details.
The library now delivers
If you or someone you know is homebound, you can still take advantage of the Huntley Area Public Library.
The library offers homebound service for library district residents who are disabled or lack transportation for more than six weeks.
If you qualify for the service, library volunteers can deliver requested materials to your home.
For more information, call the reference desk at (847) 669-5386, ext. 21.
Huntley has a new hotspot
Bring your laptops and wireless cards to the Huntley library: The library's wireless Internet network is operational.
As long as you have the right gear, you can access the wireless network during library hours free of charge.
If you've already used computers at the library, you'll be able to access the network with your library card number and PIN.
If you haven't, you may have to visit the checkout desk to register.
For more information, call the library at (847) 669-5386 or pick up a wireless handout and wireless access guidelines at the reference desk.
